During the early years of the 1960s, Vice president and general manager of Ford, Lee Iacocca conceived a sporty car for the younger generations which was based on Ford Falcon. He developed in a very short time frame on a very low budget. The Ford Mustang launched a whole new category of cars, known as pony cars.
